Ada,
That was a very interesting article and is something that I have also experienced with the couples I work with. One difference I have noted is that they often do not communicate very well (which is the reason they are getting divorced in the first place) and when they have a “discussion” outside of the sessions they often go backwords. As a result I ususally suggest that they refrain from such discussions unless they believe they can be productive, which usually is not until both of them have emotionally adjusted to the idea of a divorce, as related in your examples.
