The New York State statute for child support, established in 1989, may not adequately address the full range of expenses needed to raise children today. According to the statute, child support covers basic expenses BUT NOT childcare, education, and medical costs, which are add-ons to the basic support. Nor does it consider the additional child expenses such as summer camp, tutoring, or extracurricular activities.
