What Inspired Me to Become a Mediator

From the time she began mediating in 2003, Ada fostered a vision to open a center for divorcing families to find the support and resources needed to navigate the uncertain and often daunting aspects of divorce. She now finds the successful fulfillment of this aspiration extremely rewarding Mediating hundreds of couples since she began, Ada considers it a privilege as well as enlightening to work with families in transition.

Ada is an accredited and former board member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, a founding board member of  The Academy of Professional Family Mediators and a member of the National Association of Divorce Professionals. She has presented before the National Association of Divorce Professionals, New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, the Employee Assistance Professionals Association and the annual tax symposiums of the National Conference of CPA Practitioners as well as a number of local mental health organizations on Long Island. She blogs regularly for her website on all topics pertaining to families, separation, divorce, impacts on children and the world of relationships, the dynamics of marriage and our understanding about them. Her favorite quotes are from Soren Kierkegaard, the 19th Century Danish philosopher and theologian, her mother, Beverly Laxer and Jiminy Cricket!

Soren Kierkegaard: “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”

Beverly Laxer: “You get there when you get there and not one minute before. And no one can get you there but YOU.”

Jiminy Cricket: “Always let your conscience be your guide.”

“Ada is a real mediator in every sense of the word. She knew how to get us to put aside our differences and anger and to look at the big picture in order to do the right thing – which was to put the needs of our children first.”
