Last year, someone told me in mid-October, “I hear we’re going to have a big snowstorm on Thanksgiving.” That didn’t actually happen, but what struck me is how much we all want predictability—we want to know what’s coming. That same need for certainty comes up all the time in mediation. When you’re making financial decisions, like dividing assets, you have to consider the long-term picture.
