No matter what their age, children of divorce have to struggle with a new world structure once their parents separate. While the stigma of divorce is not what it once was – children still feel the very personal impact of their parent’s separation. While this can be a very confusing time for them, it is also confusing for parents as well. We will explore in great detail the many issues that families will face and work toward a resolution that addresses everyone’s needs and concerns.
In mediation we will explore and discuss:
- How to weigh the interests of each of the parents versus the interests of the children.
- How to help children cope with their parents’ increasing differences in values, beliefs and ways of living.
- How to help children avoid feeling the need to become caretakers of their parent’s emotional well-being.
- How to help children deal with the “loyalty” issue.
- How to keep children from being the “go-between” and the “secret keepers”.
- How to introduce new romantic partners.
Our purpose is to provide the resources and tools to help you with a post-divorce parenting plan that supports the family in transition and beyond.
Fighting for What’s Important – The Children “Mediation was a learning experience about how to work to get along together and be good parents by putting the children’s needs first. It taught me the value of fighting for what’s important.” – Diane |
