My Spring Gift To You

Let’s Remember Who We Are and Where We Are by Ada Hasloecher{1:36 minutes to read}  My sister Deborah sent me the following video recently. The video has been around for a while, but I had never seen it, and it touched me in more ways that I can say.

It’s our tendency as humans to be wrapped up in our own little worlds with all the “stuff” of life — the good, the bad and the ugly — this magnificent piece by Carl Sagan, the astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, and author, reminds us that we are all in this together, and what we make of life and its meaning to us is precious, precarious and profound.

This excerpt from Carl Sagan’s book Pale Blue Dot (1994) was inspired by an image taken by Voyager 1 on February 14, 1990 from a distance of about 6 billion kms. Voyager 1 had completed its primary mission and was leaving the Solar System.

At the request of Carl Sagan, it was commanded by NASA to turn its camera around and take one last photo of Earth across a great expanse of space. Written 28 years ago, the accompanying words are still relevant today.

Please take four minutes out of your busy day to watch this. You won’t regret it.
