I was sharing with my mom the trials, tribulations, and joys of being a mediator, but sometimes when couples are in a heated session, they suddenly are threatening each other with: “I’m going to call my lawyer.” What they don’t realize when they go through a litigated and acrimonious system is that there are costs — financial, time, energy. There is also an emotional cost and that might be the highest price of all.
